Bio

Elizabeth (Liz) Lippman is a printmaker/graphite artist living in southern New Jersey, in her third year of college at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia.  Having grown up in an environment fostering art and creativity, she’s been drawing and making crafts as early as she can remember.  Outside of her art making practice she enjoys playing piano, walking outside, and spending time with her friends.

Artist's Statement

In terms of meaning, I can only know my own art as much as I know myself.  Which is to say, both entirely and not at all.  The more I learn about myself, the less I am certain of anything concrete.  One of the many things that drives me is the human desire to connect with other people, and I think this theme persists throughout the art in my life.  My models are the few people I’ve managed to form close relationships with in my life.  I struggle a lot to connect with others on an emotional level, and I use art to bridge that gap.  My works are both an expression of love for the person I draw, as well as an outreach to others who struggle with expressing emotions
If you ask me what problem I am trying to solve in the world with my art - the answer is loneliness.  I want those who feel alone to feel connected to and understood when they see my art.  My work is characterized by meticulously detailed, representative and figurative work that shows a fascination for light. By rendering figurative drawings, I seek to capture a person’s self and put it on paper.  With each creation, I work to show my perception of what makes a person an individual.  I believe recognizing the individual is the key to feeling connected as a group.  Using printmaking as a medium assists in my mission in that it is reproducible, allowing original artworks to reach an even larger audience than might with a painting or drawing.  Each multidisciplinary print or drawing that I make is an attempt to connect with others who feel as I do; to be seen and see others like me.
